Author Interview: Lindsey Bell "Why I Wrote Searching For Sanity"

{This post contains affiliate links.}

Today, it is my honor to host my friend, Lindsey Bell, on her blog tour. She just released a book called, Searching for Sanity.

I read the whole book and did a Searching for Sanity review post. (<== click to read) It is the best parenting book I’ve read, to take you by the hand and create a foundation or plan for your parenting. Going at something so important as raising children shouldn’t be by the seat of your pants, willy-nilly style.

Now, join us in a fun Q&A session and then she has an exciting giveaway you can enter! You could win a gift card to the store of your choosing!

Why did you write Searching for Sanity?
Lindsey: I wrote Searching for Sanity in the months after my first child was born because I (like so many other new mothers) was overwhelmed by my new responsibilities. I felt inadequate and needed guidance so I wanted to see what the Bible had to say about parenting. Honestly…I wrote the book to help myself and moms like me find peace in the midst of chaos.
What is the most important thing you learned as you wrote about the parents of the Bible?
Lindsey: That God didn’t give us a formula to follow. When I first started writing the book, I wanted a formula to guarantee parenting success. As I dug into His Word, though, I realized He didn’t give us a formula or step-by-step instructions. Instead He gave us principles to follow and grace in the way in which we applied these principles. It has given me a lot of freedom as I parent my boys.
Who is your favorite parent of the Bible?
Lindsey: Wow, tough question. I have several favorites…Job because of his example of being a praying parent. The Bible says he made prayer “his regular custom,” and that’s something I would love to say about myself someday. I also like Hannah (Samuel’s mom) and Jochebed (Moses’ mom) because these two women trusted God with their children in amazing ways.
Who is the one parent in the Bible you DON’T want to be like?
Lindsey: This is another tough question because many of the parents in the Bible made some pretty big mistakes. The parent who stands out the most, though, is Jephthah. He actually made a promise to sacrifice whatever walked through the front door of his home (which, as you may know, turned out to be his only daughter). As I studied this story, I thought a lot about my own words and how important it is to think before I speak.
Where can someone go to find out more about your book?

Have you ever looked at your beloved children and wondered, what in the world am I doing? Why did God trust me—of all people—to raise them?

Motherhood is the most difficult job many of us will ever take. Searching for Sanity offers moms an opportunity to take a breath, dig into the Word, and learn from parents of the past. In short devotions designed for busy moms, this book uses the parents of the Bible—both the good and the bad—to inspire today’s mothers.

Here’s an awesome video put together about the book:
